Community sign-ups: Discord, Telegram, Reddit
Which community apps accept temp mail, which still need a phone, and the safer default when a disposable inbox is the wrong tool.

Discord, Telegram, and Reddit all require an email to create an account. None of them require the email to be permanent. Temp mail is the right fit — receive the verification code, finish the sign-up, never think about it again.
Discord
Discord's sign-up flow is one of the most temp-mail-friendly around. Email + display name + password, then a verification email arrives within seconds. The verification email contains a link — Freetempmail renders the link as a real clickable button, no copy-paste required.
For server-specific verification (some private servers require email re-confirmation), open Freetempmail in a second tab and use a different upstream provider if the first one is blocked.
Telegram
Telegram wants a phone number. Email isn't part of the sign-up flow. If you're searching for temp mail for Telegram, you're probably looking for how to sign up for Telegram without giving your phone number — that's not something Freetempmail solves. Use Telegram's official anonymous-login flow via a Fragment number, or skip Telegram.
Reddit's sign-up is email + username + password. The verification email is plain text, no links — just a confirmation code you paste back into the form. Freetempmail renders the plaintext cleanly.
If you want a "throwaway" Reddit account for browsing a single subreddit without tying it to your main identity, Freetempmail + a fresh username is the cleanest path.
Community-specific quirks
| Platform | Verification type | Temp mail works? | | --- | --- | --- | | Discord | Email link | Yes — link renders as a button | | Reddit | Email code (paste back) | Yes — plaintext reads cleanly | | Telegram | Phone number (no email) | No — phone is mandatory | | Slack (some workspaces) | Email code | Yes | | Matrix / Element | Email link | Yes | | Mastodon instances | Email link | Yes |
When to use your real email instead
If you're joining a community as your main social identity — a Discord server you're modding, a subreddit you want to moderate, a Matrix room tied to your work — use a real address you control. Password resets and account recoveries happen months later. Temp mail won't survive.
